DO the scary thing: feel

Are you scared? Good! That means you’re alive!

Fear is a build-in protective mechanism, yet in our modern world, it has turned into a “for no good reason” limitation and restrain for life itself. Do you think living a fearful life is what you, as an energetic being (spirit), intended when incarnating in this body?

Nope! Of course not! On the contrary! You’ve decided that you’ll come down here (assuming from up there! :)) and you’ll break those fears and limitations, life on this planet is projecting on you, like a badass energetic being that you are! And by doing that, you’d become freer and more empowered and you’d live a life of magic and abundance. Because that’s what you deserve! Nothing less!

Somehow (don’t know the details yet :)) this dense energetic planet we call our home for some years, is pretty good in tricking our human brains into forgetting who we truly are (=energetic beings in human form, in case you’ve already forgotten) and believing that we are helpless and powerless in the face of our fears. Therefore we need to avoid everything that scares us at all costs.

What a joke! Yet, It doesn’t feel like a joke, I know.

Avoiding our fears often happens automatically (i.e. unconsciously, automated since childhood so no effort is needed here no more). Many times, we avoid fears we don’t even know we have! Since we were infants, our body’s nervous system learned to react in freeze, flee or fight response when it came to situations in our environment that felt too intense for us in that moment and we could not escape from (e.g. feeling scared and overwhelmed crying alone in our crib). Those automatic responses accompany us well into adulthood. They’ve become our second skin. They are embedded in our identity. We’ve essentially become them, in a way.

By avoiding our fears we are essentially avoiding our own feelings and beliefs about whatever it is that scares us.

And that is the illusion we need to break out from. We react to our fears as if they are these monsters that will eat us alive, therefore we need to run away, deny them and suppress them because we don’t feel strong enough to face them. “As long as we do not see them they are not there”, our 2 year old self has us thinking. So we (re)act from that place. The state of consciousness of a 2 year old! Are you a 2-year old kid? If you’re reading this, chances are good that you are NOT!

Now, what if for once you decided that you’ll choose to face head on whatever scares you instead of avoiding it? What do you think it would happen then?

I’ll tell you what! Panic mode on!!

So, the moment we decide (following the urges of your own spirit for growth and evolution) to look at our fears with the intention to question them and ultimately overcome them- instead of keep avoiding them-, panic is then a natural following (automatic) response our nervous system activates. We act as if we’re in danger! Our identity is being threatened! Heeelp!!!

At first… and that’s what I want you to remember! Treat your panic as your first step towards liberation and true freedom! Don’t give up…instead give in to panic and let it guide you to the other side.

From my own experience, this is how panic may show up in the body:

  1. Intense agitation and restlessness, anxious and fearful thoughts, racing heartbeat, sweating, trembling.

  2. Accompanied by screaming, rage, compulsive behaviors urge to attack/hurt others or oneself (verbally and/or physically) or the complete opposite , freeze, feeling unable to breath.

  3. And after that, sadness, tears, deep sense of helplessness and feelings of unworthiness, abandonment, rejection and loneliness.

  4. Feeling calmer, yet still uneasy and scared

Moving the body, and being close to natural environments, plants, materials, etc., will help your body and mind to relax and recenter and release any blocked energy. Many times I’ve found myself trembling and sobbing during my workouts over the last 2 years. Although intense and disturbing in the moment, the sense of lightness, calmness and relief I would feel after that was worth it! Even if it lasted for a few moments.

Breathwork and meditation is another effective way I’ve found to help me overcome the grip of anxious thoughts and calm my body.

Feeling our feeling or facing our whatever fear for that matter is not something we’ve been taught from our caregivers (not most of us at least). So we need to teach ourselves. You don’t have to do this alone. There is a variety of specialties, people and modalities out there that will help you unlock this knowledge within your body. One of the best gifts I did to myself is being brave enough to asking for help. And as the saying goes…”when the student is ready, the right teacher will appear”.

No-matter the fear, know that the strength and courage you need to do this “work” is already within you. I promise you, what is on the other side of your fear(s) is true freedom and empowerment. And that feeling you definitely want to experience it in this life!! It’s freaking amazing!! :)

Let’s all break our fearful chains one by one…step by step. If I can do that, you can do that too!
